A woven thread is a thin silver thread wound around itself. This ancient technique is called filigree. Filigree describes a delicate, artful metalworking technique. It is usually done in gold and silver: hair-thin threads are interwoven, bent, and wrapped either around themselves or a piece of metal, to create a lace-like appearance. Yemeni Jews were considered virtuosos in this technique.
